Cappies

The Cappies Critics and Awards Program strives to recognize the Orange County student writers, performers, and technical crews. High school theatre students who participate in the Cappies program are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, and write reviews. The top three reviews from each show are published online.

At the end of the school year, the student critics vote to give awards to their fellow students for outstanding productions, group and individual performances, and achievements in technical categories. The critics vie for the Best Critic and Best Critic Team Award. Awards are presented at the annual Cappies Gala at the The National City Grove of Anaheim.

Why Join Cappies?

Cappies is an enriching program that anyone can benefit from, no matter their goals. Cappies teams go to see productions at other schools & critique them-- this exposure will not only improve you as a performer, but as a writer, too. Additionally, you will meet many other Cappies Critics, all with their own unique ideas and perspectives.

Cappies Gala

At the end of the year all the work that Cappies have put in culminates at the gala where awards are given, and performances happen. Additionally all Cappies are brought on stage and recognized for their work throughout the season. Awards are given to schools for their performances including Irvine, but they are also given to individual Cappies and Cappies teams for excellence in their reviews and discussion. It is our hope to have a strong Cappies team and to receive many nominations and awards this year for our productions and Cappies team.
